Black screen after installing Nvidia driver with GNOME Software

Having just switched to F26, I like what I see except for one thing. I'm booting to a black screen with kernel 4.11.10-300 after installing either of the two Nvidia drivers in GNOME Software, 2:375.66-7.fc26 or 2.381.22-6.fc26. Rebooting with 4.11.10-200 brings the desktop back up using nouveau. This is a dual graphics desktop with a Geforce GTX 970 that did not have proprietary drivers installed on it when it ran F25. I do not mind if it uses the Nvidia card full-time.

Though I uninstalled the drivers last night using GNOME Software, dnf surprisingly wanted to "upgrade" to 381.22 (also installing akmod-nvidia) this morning. It wasn't really an upgrade since there was no Nvidia driver on the system, but I was curious to see if a dnf installation came to the same result as GNOME Software, and it did. Then I ran journalctl and found the following possibly relevant errors in the gdm-x-session logs:

Failed to load module "nv" (module does not exist, 0)
Open /dev/dri/card0: No such drive or directory
Open /dev/fb0: No such drive or diretory
Screen 0 deleted because of no matching config section.

I am very far from an expert on this, but having searched some forums, I'm guessing that the driver is not being compiled against the kernel properly, but I would like not to do something I can't back out of.

Re: Black screen after installing Nvidia driver with GNOME Software

Interesting, I wasn't aware Fedora Workstation GNOME software offered proprietary driver packages.

    Read this:
    https://www.if-not-true-then-false.c...-nvidia-guide/

I have nvidia-legacy and it won't work on fedora-gnome with the current gnome version.
