Scanner does not appear when using remote login

I have multiple scanners set up on an F24 machine. When logging into that machine from its keyboard / screen everything works just fine with all the scanners behaving as expected (via xsane). The same user, logged in from a remote machine (via telnet), runs xsane but no scanners. The same occurs using VNC, again, with the same user account. On some occasions, if xsane has been run locally first, the remote session will then get access ! Running remotely as root does no better!

I've also tried setting up xsaned, but this seems to suffer the same effect, ie no scanners appear to the daemon!

I guess this is deliberate behavior, but it seems to erroneously defeat xsaned as a side effect (as does SELinux). I would love to know why and if its possible to defeat it, as I have no idea where to look.

    PS
    Firewall disabled.
    SELinux disabled.
No relevant messages in the log files.
Scanners are SCSI / USB & IEEE1394 devices!

    TIA dave

    Bump.

This still bugs me, tried SSH connections and more updates. Seems to have been like this since F21 and nobody knows why or how to diagnose. Am I posting in the wrong place ?

    TIA dave

only in so far as nobody here knows or they would have replied, this is a user community forum though and not an official support channel. have you tried ask.fedoraproject.org as well?

Re: Scanner does not appear when using remote login

    What does
    Code:
    scanimage -L
    show (locally & remotely)?

I no longer have a scanner to try, but I see the same thing (my computer's WebCam) either way. That's with the firewall & SELinux running on F24.

I'm not sure if it will help (or if it still works), but I found an article from years ago about sharing your scanner over the network:
