    Re: local host login

During boot up, are you getting to the graphical login screen or are you at a black shell screen only?

Did you setup a root password during your install?

Did you setup a regular user during your install?

    Re: local host login

It seems to me that you installed the Fedora Server only and not the workstation. If that is the case you have a headless system and it should want either the root-user username and password or the regular user and password. I would try to log in as root and install a graphical desktop unless you ment to install a headless system. Give that a try and let me know what happens.

PS: Your welcome, I will be up for a couple more hours so maybe we can get you on the right track tonight.

    Re: local host login

    David,
I tried logging in as root but I guess I don't know how to do that. I tried typing root space unktim = command not found.
I tried typing root user, enter then my password, enter = command not found.
    What is the secret word?

I'm exhausted so i'm going to bed. I will check for your answer tomorrow am. unktim

    Re: local host login

Ok, here are the steps in order.

1: Type root and hit enter
2: Enter roots password and hit enter.

Examples below in the code box are exactly what you would type at the prompts for root, so lets say your password for root is the word Apple.

    At the first login prompt:
    Code:
    root
    Now hit enter one time.

    At the password prompt:
    Code:
    Apple
    Now hit enter one time.

This should log you in as root, but change the word Apple to your root password. Now that you are logged in as root we need to install a desktop environment for you to use but we will get to that after you successfully log in as root. So let me know when you get logged in and we will take it from there step by step. I understand this may seem confusing since your new to Linux but be patient and I will help you as much as I can and before long you will be having fun with your new Linux desktop!

    @Madtiger
I notice that unktim is reporting "command not found".
This might indicate that he is actually already logged in.

    @unktim
Can you post exactly what you are seeing on the monitor ?

Hmmm, the last line has me a bit confused.

Did you type anything after entering the password and pressing 'Enter' ?

    Re: local host login

You have installed the server version of Fedora which doesn't have a desktop.

It's a bit late here so I will hand over to someone else to help you install a desktop.

I installed workstation 23 server by mistake. I then downloaded the workstation 24 32 bit iso and burned it to boot disc but when I booted up it was corrupted. Now I looking for a workstation 23 or 24 32 bit iso. Any recommendation for a good site? unktim

    Re: local host login

You can install Workstation Edition within your Server Edition installation with:

    Code:
$ sudo dnf group install "Fedora Workstation"
