Re: Windows 10 Now Showing Full Screen Ads On Lock Screen

Why do people use Windows? a) momentum -- Too lazy to change to somethin better, b) Piracy --Company installs MS-Office, I get to install a copy for myself. c) MS-Office is familiar, and ubiquitous.

LibreOffice is good, but not a good enough alternative. People with Windows systems don't know about LibreOffice.

As people switch to tablets and android/apple cellphones, windows sales are way way way down. MS needs new ways to top up revenue. Ergo, open source your development software and pink slip the developers, start to run obtrusive adverts, Try to get momentum, desire to own MS cellphones and tablets.

Use your wealth and marketing to push your own cloud compting facilities.

I am reminded of the song that had the lyrics"slip sliding away".

wps.com word processor is the closest to creating the most compatible MS office software compared to any other. And it is free, written with QT (C++), fast, and uses the ribbon style interface.

Try it, as a Windows replacement

'Cause its on the machine they bought and as annoying as they might think it is sometimes, it isn't important enough to them to try anything else.

What they use at work doesn't really count, because it's not their choice.

Now, if Apple or Google did this on phones, people probably would complain, because they're using their phones for most of the stuff they used to use Windows to do.

And that's Microsoft's problem. If they thought consumers (real people, not corporate users) would have bought Win10, they surely would not have given it away to those folks. Microsoft is trying to monetize free Windows the same way the rest of the industry has monetized its freebies all along. Presumably, that's why it's called a "service" these days: Consumers have a track record of demanding web services at no cost while accepting monetization.

Amazon do it on the Kindle Fire OS Tablets if you don't pay a one-off premium to go ad free.

This is only the start of what MS will do.
Just wait till they put some effort in it.

You didn't expect a free upgrade did you?

If you not paying for it; then perhaps you are the product...

Rather you pay for it or not, pretty sure it will all still be there.

I would pay for it if I was able to take out all that crap in there or shut it all off.

Some things are fairly easy to shut off.

I would be willing to bet though that they are banking on the fact that there are still going to be some that won't want to deal with rooting around and making those changes.

I would imagine that is why so many things are enabled by default.

Plus, some things are wrapped up in other services that more people may want (rather they need it or not is up for debate) and that's how they can keep certain things going as well. This is probably the best way that most entities get things accepted by the public when they would otherwise be hemming and hollaring about it. They wrap it up in a convenience feature.

I've had Windows 10 for many months now. NEVER seen any ads from anywhere.
