Evolution: cursor jumps to end of message

I am using evolution-3.18.3-1.fc23.x86_64. I am having the behavior that while typing, the cursor will randomly jump to the end of the message (to the end of the quoted text). This is mildly infuriating, as it often happens in mid-word.

How can I diagnose and cure this problem?

Re: Evolution: cursor jumps to end of message

Perhaps not your issue but if this is a laptop, watch that you're not resting your hands on the touch-pad when you type. You wouldn't believe how many times that is the case ... heh.

-just a shot in the dark-

Remember - importing/building packages will likely "byte you in the butt" come update/upgrade time, long after you'd forgotten you did that! Use repos whenever possible.

Re: Evolution: cursor jumps to end of message

mpolo, I just upgraded to F23 a few days ago and I am having the same problem. I am using a desktop, not a laptop. I have no solution at this point, I just wanted you to know that it is not your laptop. I will file a bug report when I have some time.

It happens with every message I compose, the cursor jumps to the very end of the message. That is the only application effected. It is probably tied to that very annoying new evolution font size increase after your mouse has been in the window for a short period of time.

I am using XFCE, not gnome (but evolution is a gnome application).

Same here, both my laptop and my desktop experience this effect. Can anyone tell me how I can diagnose this (now getting more than slightly) infuriating behaviour? It does this both in plain-text and html composition.

Re: Evolution: cursor jumps to end of message

Have any of you tested whether this cursor jumping happens just in messages where you are replying to, or in 'new' messages you start as well.

This is a constant annoyance in messages that I am replying to. But I have, as an experiment, tried this in a new message, and I get no jumping around. Please let me know if that is the case for you as well. This is not a fix but can probably help the developers track down the source of the problem.

I am in the process of filing a bug.

I still think it is tied in with that annoying behavior where the font size increase in the window, in the reply messages the original text gets all gray'd out.

I'm using a desktop, and have only noticed this on replies.

    I am also on XFCE.

Re: Evolution: cursor jumps to end of message

Evolution has had buggy copy-paste behavior since 3.16, so it is now degrading even more.

Re: Evolution: cursor jumps to end of message

I have it happening on my AMD CPU based desktop. FC23 (4.2.8-300.fc23.x86_64) and Evolution 3.18.3. It happens on both replying and new messages. I did not have this problem with FC21 and whatever version of Evolution FC21 was running. As others have mentioned, no other applications are affected. It is becoming rather vexatious!

We have reported this on bugzilla, but the developer who answered is waiting for another who has access to OWA. Apparently the problem only occurs if you are using Exchange server.

Re: Evolution: cursor jumps to end of message

He needs to stop waiting <G>. It's does not occur only with an Exchange server. I am running Fedora 23 with xfce and my server is an Exim server running on Centos 6 at my host and I have the issue all the time.

As noted it's very annoying. Other than this I really like Evolution but this is getting to be enough to drive me crazy and find another solution. Having to go back to where you where every few words is getting old.

Edit: I am running from a desktop.

    What is the bugzilla number?

Re: Evolution: cursor jumps to end of message

I just updated to Evolution 3.18.4-1 and it seems fixed.

    Run....
    $ yum update evolution

    or

    $ dnf update evolution

    $rpm -qa | grep evolution
    evolution-3.18.4-1.fc23.x86_64
    evolution-help-3.18.4-1.fc23.noarch

Re: Evolution: cursor jumps to end of message

Still doing it on Evolution 3.18.4 I've taken to writing up my messages and replies in Gedit and pasting it into the message. Cumbersome but a lot less annoying.

There is actually a function to edit messages in an external editor.

I do btw. not see this behaviour. Evolution is working quite nicely this iteration.
