broadcom-wl installed but wl not found

    Hi everybody,

    I bought a Dell XPS 13 2015 version (9343) which embed a Broadcom BCM4352 Wireless card .

All worked find until the Kernel 3.19.3.200.fc21.x86_64 update.
Since this update, I'm not enable to have Wifi connection :

    Code:
    sudo yum -y install broadcom-wl
broadcom-wl-6.30.223.248.2.fc21.noarch is already installed in the lastest version.

    modprobe wl
modprobe: FATAL: Module wl not found.
I don't know what to do ... I've tried to blacklist b43 and bcma, but nothing happened ...

    Thanks for your help,
    Morgan

Re: broadcom-wl installed but wl not found

I have an HP ProBook 650 with a Broadcom wireless chip. Just upgraded to F21 and the wireless does not work. I installed the broadcom-wl package, but still no dice.

    Any ideas?

I had similar issue with an embedded Broadcom wireless chip on an HP laptop. Check BIOS settings <F10 key> on startup prior to bootloader. Then locate BIOS advanced settings for embedded wireless LAN device. Change device from 'Disabled' to 'Enabled'. Save and restart system.

Thanks but that did not work.

I'm still pulling my hair out here.

Re: broadcom-wl installed but wl not found

As a temporary solution, I am using Ubuntu (obviously far from ideal). I hope this gets fixed eventually but I am thinking of replacing the Broadcom adapter with an Intel 7265 which has proper support in Kernel. Some of the New Dell XPS 13 models ship with it (only available to businesses, not consumers).

It is very disappointing that Dell choose to ship the DE laptops with a Broadcom card that requires proprietary drivers when they had the choice of shipping with an Intel card which is fully supported without proprietary drivers.

Even with the proprietary drivers working in Ubuntu my WiFi is unstable and takes a lot of fiddling to connect.

This may seem like a naive question, but what are the odds of this problem actually getting fixed anytime soon?

Re: broadcom-wl installed but wl not found

    Hello,

I decided to make my laptop Lenovo G70 boot on a Fedora distribution this week. Here is what I did in order to support the broadcom BCM43142. Hopefully it will help you debugging the issue. It worked for me as I was then able to connect to my wifi network.

    # add free and non free repository of rpmfusion (https://rpmfusion.org/Configuration/)
    sudo dnf install https://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-$(rpm -E %fedora).noarch.rpm https://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-$(rpm -E %fedora).noarch.rpm

    # get broadcom-wl driver
sudo dnf install kmod-wl akmods akmod-wl

    # get kernel-devel package for compilation of broadcom-wl driver for your kernel
    sudo dnf kernel-devel

    # reboot of system (menu "System", select "Shut Down...", click button "Shut Down")

    # make sure driver "broadcom-wl" is installed
    [yves@yveshome1 ~]$ rpm -qa | grep broadcom-wl
    broadcom-wl-6.30.223.271-1.fc22.noarch

    # at this point, I got the issue described in this thread "broadcom-wl installed but wl not found"
    [yves@yveshome1 ~]$ sudo modprobe w1
    [sudo] password for yves:
modprobe: FATAL: Module w1 not found.

    # check that akmods can be run successfully (or not...)
    [yves@yveshome1 /]$ sudo akmods

Re: broadcom-wl installed but wl not found

    @gob17
Why would you try to modprobe w1 (with the number one - which is not a module) when the system tells you it is unable to load wl (with the letter L - the broadcom wifi module) ?
