    how to unpack initramfs on fc21

    Hi,

    i tried to unpack it with the following command, but this failed.

    Code:
    [root@fc21 tmp]# cat /boot/initramfs-3.17.8-300.fc21.x86_64.img | cpio -id
    cpio: early_cpio not created: newer or same age version exists
    cpio: kernel/x86/microcode/GenuineIntel.bin not created: newer or same age version exists
    36 blocks

    I may be wrong, but I think initramfs is not a cpio archive any more. They are generated by dracut and there is a tool, lsinitrd, for inspecting them.

    with the following commands i could unpack the initramfs.

    Code:
    # yum -y install binwalk
    # cd /tmp
    # cp /boot/initramfs-3.17.8-300.fc21.x86_64.img .
    # binwalk initramfs-3.17.8-300.fc21.x86_64.img .
    # dd if=/tmp/initramfs-3.17.8-300.fc21.x86_64.img of=initramfs.gz bs=11264 skip=1
    # gunzip initramfs.gz
    # mkdir ramdisk
    # cd ramdisk
    # cpio -i -d -H newc --no-absolute-filenames < ../initramfs
