Re: Realtek ALC892 - sound issues

My reply does not help a lot, but when on fed20 my SD card reader did not work, I was given to believe that it is something to do with the certification of REALTEK drivers. Hope I am not spreading a red herring.

ops..was forgetting; here is my "lspci"; the problem is about "no soundcard found" when I type "aplay -l" and pulse audio/alsa shows only "dummy output".
The problem comes after instralling KDE.

    I really don't know...

Re: Realtek ALC892 - sound issues

I will leave these 2 links here they may or may not be of interest.

Link for Realtek drivers to download.
    http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/

Installing Realtek ALC892 Audio Driver on Linux Mint
    http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/1236

Further configuration if problems arise with crackling and popping sound.
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=130948

    Disable auto-mute.

If it helps please do report this.

    How to report
    https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to_file_a_bug_report

    Where to report.
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/ (In the Redhat bugzilla space so they can fix or report to the upstream)

    and/or

https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug (directly to the alsa people)

I do realize that those solutions posted are proprietary drivers and that is why probably Fedora doesn't work out of the box for this particular type of soundcard, but reporting the issue to the Alsa people may make someone look for a solution and create a driver for it, one could also help out by posting the link to the soundcard datasheet and specs in question it does help a lot.

ps: I couldn't find an open source driver for this hardware, but I didn't look hard just at the Alsa matrix.

How will installing a driver make his missing card appear?

Still get problems, it doesn't compile.

No driver will work unless the sound device is detected by the O/S
Is it enabled in bios? if so the 'lspci' command should see it.
Can you describe the sound card eg: built-in to mobo, PCI card or USB device.

It might since he has no modules loaded for sound, but the system can see the cards..

I can't find a driver for it in the Alsa website for neither 8086:0c0c nor 8086:8c20.

So I took his word for it, that it is a Realtek ACL892 did a search and that is what came up.

    Maurop81:

To compile the driver, you need to install the dev packages that it needs and also the kernel headers, this is not an easy task for somebody with no experience.

instead of make have you tried "./configure"
It will tell you everything that it needs.

But before that have you tried updating your kernel from 3.11.10-301.fc20.x86_64 to 3.14.9-200.fc20.x86_64?
