    Brother printer and scanner udev rule

    Fedora 20 working udev rule for Brother MFC scanner.

    This works for me. I noticed that Fedora 20 has no such rule for some reason so I created one and tested it fine. My Brother model is a "MFC-9125CN"

    nano /lib/udev/rules.d/40-libsane.rules

    ENV{libsane_matched}=="yes", RUN+="/bin/setfacl -m g:scanner:rw $env{DEVNAME}"
    # Brother scanners
    ATTRS{idVendor}=="04f9", ENV{libsane_matched}="yes"

    LABEL="libsane_rules_end"
    coffee

    I posted this as the rule is missing in the udev rules. I think it will come in handy for anyone with a multi printer that is getting a 'permission denied' or a 'i/o error' when trying to scan with xsane or simple scan ect...

    Re: Brother printer and scanner udev rule

    Doesn't 'N' at the end of 'MFC-9125CN' stand for Networking?

    Why not just put the printer on LAN, install Brother printer/scanner drivers (they have them for Linux at support.brother.com), and have it auto-detect?

    That's what I do with my old Brother MFC-8660DN.

    Re: Brother printer and scanner udev rule

    great. made my brother scanner work without being root. I have actually installed the dev settings from brother but unfortunatley they only support up to fedora 17, so i assume the OS has changed since then.

    Can you explain what the command/txt is actually doing?
