Skip user creation dialog?

So, I'm using a kickstart script that our org has been using with Fedora 18 without issue... just a few minor modifications so far. If I leave the @cinnamon group in, I can get to the login dialog and our LDAP stuff seems to work just fine.

If I remove the @cinnamon group, it of course defaults to GNOME, and I get this dialog that asks me to select language, keyboard, and create a user. I can't skip it. I've already specified language and keyboard style in the kickstart, but it asks me anyway. Is this a GNOME thing that has suddenly appeared in 19, or what?

I'm a little right now... any pointers would be much appreciated!

Thanks, but that's already in there, as is the keyboard and mouse setup, which it seems to be happily ignoring. Any idea why?

I'm wondering if this is some GNOME-specific thing, because when I install Cinnamon, as stated, and use that for my first session, I never get this dialog and can authenticate with LDAP.

Not sure, but given the fact it was enable in my ks, and wasnt executed, might be an issue.

Yep, it appears to be totally ignoring what's in my kickstart script. I'm cat-ing the anaconda-ks.cfg from a TTY of the newly installed F19, the one that has the Welcome/Input Sources/Login/Location/Online Accounts/Thank You dialog up.

This definitely appears to be the GNOME 3.8-specific Welcome screen. I read something somewhere about altering a .config file in /etc to trick it into believing that this has already been run, but I can't find that file anywhere.

The whole point of us using this kickstart file is to get us right to a login screen immediately so users can authenticate via LDAP and get into the system quickly. The new GNOME defeats that handily.

Anybody have any other ideas on how to approach this? Thanks very much!

Ahmad, that worked! Thank you!

I just added "yum -y remove gnome-initial-setup" to my %post section in the kickstart, and it no longer pops up. I can now authenticate with LDAP credentials and get in right away.

Now, the only thing left is this point where it stops on a screen that only has a "USER CREATION (No user will be created)" option in the upper left, and a "Finish Configuration" button in the bottom right. This screen will not go away without hitting the "Finish Configuration" button. I already have the "reboot" option specified in my kickstart script, and it makes no difference.

Does anyone know how to skip this portion? We'll never be creating any local users for our setup here.

Here's a picture of the screen I'm trying to skip. I've been through the Fedora documentation and I'm not finding anything on this. Is there some trick I'm missing here? Is there an option I can put in my kickstart script that will dump me right to the login screen?

I think this window is from initial-setup; there're two packages, gnome-initial-setup and initial-setup, it seems that since you uninstalled the former, the system fell back to initial-setup. You probably will need to uninstall initial-setup too.

OK, not just yet... it looks like after the removal of the "initial-setup" package, I'm having some intermittent login issues. I'm not sure if this is strictly related, but it's weird: I've got three DEs installed by default, GNOME, Cinnamon, and Xfce. Before, there were no issues (when I only had "gnome-initial-setup" removed as part of %post in the kickstart). Now, whenever I choose Xfce, it dumps me right back to the login screen after a brief black screen with some text I can't read.

Checked the logs, and the only one that immediately looks interesting is lightdm.log: it's successfully authenticating, but then stopping the X-server and dumping me back out, but doesn't say why. Looking for more clues in other logs, but most of them are really cryptic and it's hard to know what happened when. Wish I could dump them into a single log in very strict chronological order so I could infer what's causing what to happen.

Weird... don't see how removing this package would cause issues with Xfce; maybe that isn't what's happening at all. I'll keep messing around with it and post whatever I come up with. In the meantime, any tips for things to try/look at are most welcome!

Do you happen to have an existing homedir for liveuser on the liveCD?
I once had a user listed but no homedirs, thus one could not login.

Yeah, that's the thing: this is auto-mounting our homedirs. I don't have a true testing account, so maybe there is a conflict. It appears terribly intermittent at the moment, and I can't trace it to that one package. Tried an image from yesterday that didn't remove the 'initial-setup' package but did remove the 'gnome-initial-setup' package, and I've been having issues all day. Did it from both a VM and a physical box.

I don't have a true testing account, so maybe there's something going on on the back end with my homedir... maybe it's getting corrupted from all this testing. It lives on a big storage cluster on our network. We're automounting all homedirs to said cluster, and we're using LDAP for authentication--therefore, we don't need any of this initial setup stuff: it just confuses our users. I'm trying to avoid that as much as possible. Just image and log in is all I want--thought I had it working perfectly this morning, but apparently not.

Thanks much for your help, I truly appreciate it! I'm going to see what this latest VM does and if it's still hiccuping, I'll start posting some logs. The only factor that seems constant is that starting a session with Xfce seems to start screwing everything up. The other DEs won't ever seem to do this. The intermittent dumping me back to the login prompt only starts to happen after I've tried to log in at least once with Xfce. It does this on the physical box as well.

I bet my profile's screwed by now with all this logging in and out... maybe that has something to do with it... I really don't know at this point. :\

As the dirs are 'remote bound in' (as i understand it, you login on the livecd to a homedir outside of the liveimage),
have you made sure the users exist with the proper id/gid on the liveimage?
