Question Laptop goes to suspend rather than shutdown

I have a laptop with Fedora 18 x86_64 on it and I connect to an external monitor through HDMI. I've noticed that more often than not, whenever I try to shutdown, it goes to suspend mode instead. Then when I open the lid, it turns on and the screen stays blank. It even happens when I do the shutdown via in a terminal using shutdown -h now.

    Anyone have this problem?

What kind of netbook is this and what kind of graphics chip does it have?

Does this also happen when you don't connect an external monitor?

Did you install Fedora in UEFI mode or BIOS compatibility mode?

I have the same issue. Intel SandyBridge graphics. HP Elitebook 8460p. F18 64bit. Only happens when external monitor is connected. Not sure on installation method. Ran install from Live CD.

I had the same issue with my Acer Netbook. What is basically a suspect in such cases is SELinux. OK, i disabled it in /etc/selinux/config: just set SELINUX=disabled. Reboot. From then on everything was fine.

BTW: SELinux might be a slight overkill for personal computers or laptops...
