I don't know, but every time I do modprobe wl, it appears the same as above.....I was doing googling about this issue and another guy, I don't remember when i found that, he had the same issue in F18 too, not so many posts out there for this issue, broadcom just makes us so difficult, I don't understand why they don't have drivers for linux...

    Re: Wireless Missing?

By Googleing "Required key not available", most reads do seem to point to the "Secure Boot" thing as the problem when trying to load an "unsigned" kernel module. The only fixes I read were what evilbastard already posted, to turn off secure boot in the firmware (bios). I can give you zero advice on how to proceed from here.

    Re: Wireless Missing?

In this thread, someone mentioned same error when trying to load an NVIDIA kernel module, that turning secure boot off fixed it.

    http://www.forums.fedoraforum.org/sh...d.php?t=288725

Also the Fn-F2 switch never worked until I was able to get the module loaded properly.

yes, thx, I tried to turn that off, and did all steps again, it was the same...didn't know why...looks like this issue cannot be solved on my Dell Vostro 2420

this is a great news !!!!!

this issue solved, below is my steps:
    1. do all those steps except modprobe wl command,
    2. turn secure boot off,
    3. login and run the modprobe as root (I tried sudo, didn't work out for me, strange...)
    4. restart, wow...it is working now....

notice once you turn the secure boot on, wireless will NOT work, but if I turn it off, it will come back..

thx all your help on this issue...

yes, cannot use secure boot, I thought after setting I could turn it on then use, turned out, if I leave it on, it won't work, all settings were correct, but it is good for others to know. thanks to all.

Glad you were able to work this out. This is why I will hold off buying a new puter until the whole Secure Boot Poop is worked out.

    Re: Wireless Missing?

If you updated, chances are the kernel was updated. You will have to download the headers and devel for that kernel before you can compile.

I have tried this an hour, finally, I got it back now !!!

    need to:
    1. delete old wl.ko file from /lib/modules/extra/wl, as well as the wl.ko file in bcm43142 fold...
    2. make clean, make, (another new wl.ko should be there again)
    3. mkdir -p /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/extra/wl
    4. cp wl.ko /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/extra/wl
    5. depmod -a
    6. modprobe wl
    7. reboot

then it came back....hum, need to be careful when update next time, this is trouble....

Yep that's what you need to do if your kernel upgrades. Glad you figured it out.

    Re: Wireless Missing?

Or you could actually sign it.
    /usr/src/kernels/$(uname -r)/scripts/sign-file sha256 ./MOK.priv ./MOK.der $(modinfo -n wl)

More than a little sad to me even after 3 years the "solution" to secure boot issues in linux is to turn it off. Bit like being told to solve a stuck door on a vehicle by trashing it, instead to use plastic and duct tape.
