Fedora 17 - Kernel repeatedly disconnects and connects USB dongle

    Hi community,

this is my first post! I've just installed Fedora 17 on an IBM X3550 M3. I'm doing some QEMU/KVM stuff and I need to do pass-through some USB device to my virtualized host.

The USB device is a USB dongle which can not be mounted (it contains just a license key from some customer). I've pluged-in the USB dongle and all I see in /var/log/messages is:

    Code:
    Jul 25 12:17:53 pscx3550m3 mtp-probe: checking bus 3, device 59: "/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1a.0/usb3/3-2"

I've also tried adding usbcore.autosuspend=-1 to the boot options. No improvement!

    Any ideeas?

    Thanks in advance.

Re: Fedora 17 - Kernel repeatedly disconnects and connects USB dongle

I've finally managed it to find the source of the whole problem.
    Code:
    Jul 25 12:17:53 pscx3550m3 mtp-probe: bus: 3, device: 60 was not an MTP device
Since I became skeptical about the "mtp-probe" I looked for it and found it in /lib/udev/mtp-probe. Afterwards I've "disabled" it by
    Code:
    # mv /lib/udev/mtp-probe /lib/udev/mtp-probe-broken
And it worked! No more disconnects and the device remains visible to the system:
    Code:
    # lsusb | grep 1672
    Bus 003 Device 065: ID 1672:0001
