    display brightness

I have chanced upon a rather curious observation with Fedora 17. I have two laptops - Lenovo thinkpads T500 and T520 - running F17/GNOME - more or less identical installations. T500 is about 3 years old and T520 is less than 1 year old and has a Nvidia card (Nvidia driver).

I just noticed today that I cannot change the screen brightness at all in T520 whereas I have absolutely no problems with T500. I thought it was a problem with the hot key and changed the brightness using menu. Nope! Did not work! All the hot keys work fine and the when I change the brightness screen shows the animation but nothing happens. Neither of these laptops had any such issues with F16.

Anyone has some ideas as to what could be the cause for this behavior?

    Re: display brightness

    i think is this:

check your xorg.conf and add this line:
    Code:
    Option "RegistryDwords" "EnableBrightnessControl=1"
    on the Section "Device" part.
    ASUS g74sx-bbk7 -- Fedora 17 x64
    Intel CORE i7 2630QM @2GHz // nVidia GeForce GTX 560M 2GB // 8GB DDR3 1333 MHz SDRAM // 2 x 500GB 7,200rpm

    Re: display brightness

Since I have the nvidia driver installed, I edited the nvidia-xorg.conf. Nothing happened. Do you think I should change the xorg.conf instead? graphics card would be using nvidia-xorg.conf right?

    Re: display brightness

i'm also on the nvidia driver, but the one the system uses is xorg.conf, no idea what pros/cons would enabling nvidia-xorg.conf bring

Yup! You are 100% right! It was the xorg.conf and the problem is fixed now! Everything is working now.

    Thanks!
