Screen went black, now "Welcome to Emergency Mode"

Last night I installed a brand new copy of Fedora 15 to my computer. I dual boot with Windows 7. I installed JRE, LibreOffice, and Flash last night. Everything seemed to be running fine. This morning I installed Wine. It seemed to install fine as well.

Shortly after that (15mins to an hour, I wasn't paying attention) the screen suddenly went black. I waited about 5 minutes, nothing changed, so I eventually restarted my computer. Now every time I log in to Fedora it gets to the loading screen and the Fedora logo fills 99% of the way with white but hangs on that last percent for a few minutes, then eventually it comes through to:

Welcome to emergency mode. Use 'systemctl default' or ^D to activate default mode. Give root password for maintenance (or type Control-D to continue):

    What do I do?

I do believe you are hitting the glaring omission in systemd on F15.

That is the lack of a progress indicator if it checks a filesystem during boot.

My guess is that somehow you rfilesystem got corrupted and the standard check during boot can't fix it, so it dropped you to a shell to run a more thorough filesystem check.

When it drops you to emergency mode, try running a filesystem check on all of your drives, then reboot and see if it still causes you problems.

As per your suggestion, I ran fsck. Then, when the command prompt told me to restart linux, I rebooted. Same problem.

Re: Screen went black, now "Welcome to Emergency Mode"

Okay guys, I solved this. Here's what I did:

First, I logged in as root
    Second, I shutdown the computer
Third, I rebooted onto the Fedora 15 live cd
Fourth, I reformatted my hard drive
Fifth, I reinstalled Fedora. Problem solved!
