Fedora 15 and Broadcom BCM43224 not working

I recently installed Fedora 15 on my HP Elitebook 8460p and it has a BCM43224 wireless card. I installed the RPMFusion repositories and installed kmod-wl and broadcom-wl packages this morning. Rebooted and the wireless worked just fine.

Fast forward to this afternoon, I had rebooted my laptop and apparently my kernel had updated when I wasn't looking and my wireless suddenly stopped working. Before the rebooted I was on 2.6.38.8-35.fc15.x86_64 and after reboot I am on 2.6.40-4.fc15.x86_64. I checked and there was an update to kmod-wl for 2.6.40-4.fc15.x86_64 which I installed.

I ran modprobe wl and checked lsmod and it shows that wl is loaded but it does not show up in either ifconfig -a or in NetworkManager. I rebooted and got the same results.

I'm at a loss as to what happened and would really appreciate any help or suggestions that might help me figure out where to go from here.

I should probably also mention that I did install the akmod-wl package in hopes that would fix my issue, but it did not, so I'm back on the kmod-wl package.

TLDR: Using BCM43224, updated kernel to 2.6.40, update kmod-wl to 2.6.40 and now wifi won't work.

Re: Fedora 15 and Broadcom BCM43224 not working

I have an Asus EEE PC 1215t with a Broadcom BCM4313 and I'm having the same issue.

I was able to change the kernel back to 2.6.38.8-35.fc15.x86_64 by editing the "default" line in /boot/grub/grub.conf and rebooting. 2.6.38.8-35 kernel works.

Same issue here. HP425 with BCM4313, Fedora 15 2.6.40-4, and no wireless device working.

Re: Fedora 15 and Broadcom BCM43224 not working

my bluetooth mouse that was previously paired with the laptop stopped working after 2.6.40-4 kernel update.
bluetooth can be toggled on/off but visibility cannot be changed in gnome3.

Re: Fedora 15 and Broadcom BCM43224 not working

    If you check with:

    Code:
    uname -r
at the command line, anyone who has updated and rebooted will see:

    2.6.40-4.fc15
    listed as the running kernel.

If you check the rpmfusion repositories you will see that, as of a few hours ago, many of the kernel specific modules hadn't been updated yet.

That's not an unusual situation for a day or so after a new kernel release.

You can either edit your grub.conf file, or its symbolic link menu.lst, as the fix by kdknigga.

Or, as Fedora retains a previous kernel for just this situation, you can access it at boot time by repeatedly tapping the down arrow key to display the boot menu and select it there.

In a dual boot machine with Windows, that menu is set to display for a few seconds by default. If you wish it to display every time you boot, you can edit either of those same files as mentioned before and change the "timeout" line to a value of however many seconds you wish. I believe in dual boot machines it's five seconds.

Same here. I will try the tip of the kdknigga.
    Thanks;
Packages for the new kernel is already in rpmfusion. My notebook is already up and running.

Re: Fedora 15 and Broadcom BCM43224 not working

since the latest update my broadcom wireless refused to work. I googled it and found nothing specific but when I restarted using the old kernel I noticed that the kernel module for bcma wasn't being used-

    lspci -v | awk '/Ether|Net/,/^$/'

and after the update it had appeared-

So more googling showed that I could blacklist it in /etc/modprobe.d/broadcom-wl-blacklist.conf
    it looks like this now

    # modules blacklisted for broadcom-wl
    blacklist bcm43xx
    blacklist bcma
    blacklist ssb
    blacklist b43
    blacklist ndiswrapper

After a reboot my wireless is working fine. But my bluetooth is still not working properly, guess this is a work around not a fix.
I'm just offering this up as a suggestion and if anyone more knowledgable than me would like to suggest a better way of doing this then please feel free.
    Hope this helps

Re: Fedora 15 and Broadcom BCM43224 not working

I got my Broadcom card to work again with the wl module.

The only thing I got to do is to blacklist the bcma module in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf :

    blacklist bcma

    And after that :

    rmmod wl
    rmmod bcma
    modprobe wl
