You're welcome, Scott. These things used to be much simpler before Fedora15, you just had many of the configuration tools in a place where they were easy to find. In my opionion, they overdid the big cleanup a bit. Now the programs are still there, but you need to know that they exist and where you can find them. Very annoying...

Re: FC15 stop gnome from turning screen off

    Thanks guys.

Disabling power management worked but what are the consequences? This seems too much like trying to perform surgery with a hammer. I would prefer a specific fix to disabling an entire feature.

    * I tried to find out what setting the screen saver timeout did to the configuration but I had no luck. I had thought that there would be a parameter in a text file that was changed as there is in most other configurable parameters. I didn't find it. Can someone tell me where the power management configuration is stored?

    * I remember seeing a configuration parameter somewhere that allowed the screen turn-off feature to be disabled when a video was playing. I do not remember if this was a system configuration or a preference setting in the video player. I normally use VLC to play videos because I have had the least trouble with it (as long as you are using ALSA for audio).

We used to be able to access these settings in gconf-editor, but now the power management is I think in dconf-editor, while screensaver settings are still in gconf-editor (yes, it's a mess). Anyways, try starting them both from the terminal (if they are not available on your system, install them with "yum install gconf-editor dconf-editor") and dig around.

Re: FC15 stop gnome from turning screen off

I found a solution in another thread. Adding the following lines to ~/.bash_profile turns off the display power management in X windows. You can execute the command in a terminal shell if you do not want to log in again.

    --- begin ---

    # Disable X windows screen saver

    xset s off

    # Disable display power management system

    xset -dpms

    --- end ---

    Follow the post here: http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=266066

That works, is easy to use and doesn't affect other functionality

Old post I know but I found myself here from Google and thought I'd add what solved my problem in case it helps someone else.

All the wonderful power settings can be messed with to your hearts content with dconf-editor and browse to org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power. Most of it is there.

Ok, closing up this old thread and moving it to EOL.
