    Unison on Fedora 15

    A week ago I was running Fedora 14 on my laptop and my desktop and using Unison 2.27.57 (that package is never updated in the repos) to keep my home directories synced. It worked flawlessly.

    I'm still running F14 on my laptop but recently installed F15 on my desktop. I have Unison 2.27.57 installed on both and I'm using the same configuration files.

    My sshd, ssh, and ~/.unison/default.prf configuration files haven't changed.

    When I run Unison from my F14 laptop, everything works fine. (Note: initially, running ssh responded "No route to host", then after a kernel update told me the key was wrong (expected). I recreated ~/.ssh/known_hosts.) (Note #2: it insists it's running on those remote files for the first time, which is surprising because ~/.unison/ is untouched.)

    When I run Unison on my desktop (F15), it hangs with no output. I can ssh in fine, so it's not an ssh or firewall issue. What's going on here?!

    In verbose mode (-debug verbose and -debug all), Unison outputs my configuration file, these preferences:
    Code:
    killserver = false
    addversionno = false
    servercmd =
    sshargs =
    rshargs =
    rshcmd = rsh
    sshcmd = ssh
    xferbycopying = true
    sshversion =
    pretendwin = false
    times = false
    group = false
    owner = false
    numericids = false
    perms = 1023
    rsrc-aux = false
    rsrc = default
    someHostIsInsensitive = false
    ignorecase = default
    timers = false
    terse = false
    logfile = /home/dmyersturnbull/unison.log
    log = true
    debugtimes = false
    debug = verbose
    addprefsto =
    and this:
    Code:
    [remote] Shell connection: ssh (ssh, -l, dmyersturnbull, 192.168.1.104, -e, none, unison, -server)

    Re: Unison on Fedora 15

    Not sure from what you have posted?

    I use 2.40.63 for a disc to disc setup on F15 and it has worked fine so far.
    PHP Code:
    unison -version
    unison version 2.40.63
    I haven't tried the older version on F15, although, that may not be the issue?

    I can attach an unison-2.40.63-1.fc15.x86_64.rpm if you want to try the newer version if you like?

    Thanks for the reply.

    The difference might be that, in your disk-to-disk setup, ssh isnít used. If you post that 64-bit rpm, Iíll try it.

    If you need the src rpm I can give you that as well, although I can't upload it here as there is a size restriction.

    PHP Code:
    $shasum unison-2.40.63-1.fc15.x86_64.rpm
    762a084d264bf25d7ca2d4024b82ce7d3c3191b7  unison
    -2.40.63-1.fc15.x86_64.rpm

    Re: Unison on Fedora 15

    I installed Unison 2.40.63-1 from the 64-bit rpm you linked, but I'm encountering the same issue. I can ssh in fine, but Unison won't connect.

    I posted prematurely; I forgot to update Unison on my laptop, too
    Do you happen to have a 32-bit rpm I can install on my laptop? When trying to compile, I keep getting weird errors.

    I can build one [i686.rpm] and post it, might take a day or so.

    Re: Unison on Fedora 15

    Seve, thanks a lot, it also works fine on my machines.

    If it's not too much trouble, could you post how you created these rpms? I'm just asking since maybe in future versions it might come in handy to know how to do it yourself.

    Re: Unison on Fedora 15

    Seve,

    It will be great if you could contact the current unison package maintainer to have the latest unison in Fedora 15.

    unison 2.40 has received so many improvements since the 2.27.

    Re: Unison on Fedora 15

    There are (at least) two unison bug reports on bugzilla:
    https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=734531
    https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=698833

    Currently unison is orphaned:
    https://admin.fedoraproject.org/pkgdb/acls/name/unison

    Any help is highly appreciated. Hopefully we can get unison maintained again!

    You could try to first mount the remote files system.
    Works perfectly for me with SMB.
    It needs a bit of scripting though.
