    h.264 decoder

    this is weird...

anyway, i re-installed fedora onto my laptop. I then installed the rpmfusion free repo. i then tried to play some flash videos i had saved on a flash drive... it found all but one codec: the one for "h.264 decoder". i installed the non-free rpm fusion and the ugly gstreamer package but it still asks to search for and comes up dry on the h.264.

it will play the files but without the video half... audio only.

it did not do this the time I originally installed fedora... but then again installed both repositories for rpmfusion and all the gstreamer ugly, bad, and ffmpeg packages before i tried playing anything.

is there a fix for this or should i re-install fedora once again?

it was in totem... what bugs me is it worked fine before. i wonder if the order of what i did had anything to do with it...

put the correct order of commands in a text file... next time i re-install i can just run it and be done.

totem is well a piece of junk. you could try MPlayer or VLC.

Have a look at MJMWired's Guide.

I simply re-installed and used my script to install all of the codecs at once. works great now.

i never had issues that were purely totem... i do not see the issue with it. it seems better integrated...

Please, can you post your script to install the codecs?
Thanks in advance for your valuable help!

    Re: h.264 decoder

it won't let me post the file but the executable text file looks like this:

    su -c 'yum localinstall --nogpgcheck http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/...ble.noarch.rpm http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfr...ble.noarch.rpm'
    su -c 'yum install gstreamer-plugins-ugly gstreamer-plugins-bad gstreamer-ffmpeg'

be sure to run it BEFORE you try to play the files, or else you will have to reinstall fedora (i am sure there is another fix but it is not of my knowledge)

Just trying to play files for which you don't have the correct codec will generate an error or simply not play back correctly. It won't damage the system. You will not need to reinstall Fedora.

i meant if you just have it search and install, generating the issue that started this thread in the first place.
