    Chrome OS

Can anyone confirm what I think I've discovered regarding the Chrome OS? I've been poking around on the web and I believe that it is not currently available to the general public as something that can be downloaded and installed? Is this correct? I'm sure that a few months ago I had done just that (downloaded it) and used the OS for a short few hours (too lean for my liking).

    Re: Chrome OS

I just downloaded it a couple days ago, so it is available to the general public. So far I haven't really tested it, the two machines I tried (a VM, and my legacy system) didn't like it too much...

It would seem not, Glenn. Looks like they want to keep their special little toys for themselves. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Chrome_OS

Hmmmm. I'll be dipped in luke warm stupid-sauce if I'm gonna get their "premium" account to DL it direct ... but the torrent is running fairly smoothly.

    Edit: Got it. Seeding.

    Re: Chrome OS

BTW, the torrent's the way to go. I'm using the 'standard' (slow) downloader and it looks like it'll be 2+ hours. Killing now! Hmmmm.... 280.66meg? The regular DL was 697meg. Hmmmm......

So this is an image to be used with VirtualBox? Solves half the problem.

Oh, I see. Live CD. I get it.

Since I've already downloaded the virtual image and have it running, how do you turn this darned thing off!

    Re: Chrome OS

With the vmware image, you can hit ctl+alt+T to open a terminal, then do sudo shutdown -h now

Not sure about the version you have.

Well, I've tried it. Seems to be mostly a browser and terminal at the moment.. Mostly useful, as I understand it, for cloud computing.
