Unhappy LiveUSB not booting Fedora 14

    Greetings!

I have a 4GB USB Flash Drive that I would like to install Fedora 14 Live on.

    Process:

Downloaded the Fedora 14 i686 Live ISO file
Used the Fedora LiveUSB Creator on my USB with the Fedora 14 ISO
I changed my BIOS on my Dell Inspiron E1505 to boot from a USB, then CD-DVD ROM, then Internal HDD
Had USB inserted, then turned on computer

    Received the following message:
    SYSLINUX 3.81 2009-05-29 EBIOS Copyright (C) 1994-2009 H. Peter Anvin et al
    _

    And then it sticks.
I've found two other internet sites that have had this problem. One is in chinese, the other is in french. I know french, but the 'solution' was not clear.

I'm fairly new to Linux so I would appreciate a bit of explanation along with some options to try and get it to work! Cheers, and thanks!

I'm also having the same problem.

    I got these logs:

    In file liveusb-creator.exe:
[creator:854] Unable to get GetVolumeInformation(F: (21, 'GetVolumeInformation', 'The device is not ready.')

    In file liveusb-creator:

    Then after some research:
    https://fedorahosted.org/liveusb-creator/ticket/759
    https://fedorahosted.org/liveusb-creator/ticket/657

And got no more error logs. But still the same failure behavior.

You could try dd'ing the image to the stick instead (or doing the same thing with a Windows tool, I forget the name of the popular Windows imager).

Re: LiveUSB not booting Fedora 14

Same problem with the 64 bit. Tried burning to cd, got past this but then hit next problem with nVidia GeForce 7150M / nforce 630M .... (I assume)... my screen is fuzzy and offset to the side by 3/4. I find lots of sites explaining how to install drivers but how do I do this when I cannot click on anything and see anything!! Anything else I can try? Please help!

    Hi all.
I had this problem with using fedora live usb creator as well...I solved the problem by using unetbootin, just pick the iso and your usb drive and create it. I had formated the 4gb drive to fat.
    Check it out @ http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/

Interesting... I've also been hitting this issue, but with the i386 install DVD (not tried the live image). Strange as the 3 DVDs I've burnt were all verified good post-burn but can't get past either the ISOLINUX boot message or the install boot menu (which later dies with an "uncompression error") to actually do a media test.

    never-mind, doing it this way would allow to boot the install but then this happens;

    https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=443291

Re: LiveUSB not booting Fedora 14

I think this problem has to do with the version of Syslinux that LiveUSB Creator uses. It installs 3.81, but F14 uses 4.02, and there seems to be an incompatibility between them. Therefore, a 4.x version of Syslinux is needed to replace it. The latest is 4.03, which should work, but you can also get 4.02 http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/util...linux-4.02.zip, Extract syslinux.exe from the win32 directory, and run it on the USB stick to replace the bootloader. For example, if the USB shows up as drive D:, open a command prompt in the directory where the new syslinux.exe was extracted and execute the following:

    Code:
    syslinux D:
This will update the bootloader on the specified drive, so make sure to get it right.

Another option is to replace the syslinux.exe file LiveUSB Creator uses with the new one and run LiveUSB Creator again. The file goes into the "tools" directory. So, if LiveUSB Creator was installed to C:\Program Files\LiveUSB Creator, it needs to go in C:\Program Files\LiveUSB Creator\tools.

    Working for me.

mwesten: nice idea, we should probably get liveusb-creator's syslinux updated...
