    Gedit via VNC

    Fedora 13

I su in a terminal to use Gedit to setup the httpd.conf file. It appears that Gedit is corrupting the httpd.conf edits I make. Not every time, at least that's my impression.

in the terminal window this get's displayed when I load Gedit:

Failed to get connection to session: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.)
GConf Error: Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. See http://projects.gnome.org/gconf/ for information. (Details - 1
    :

Is this an indication of a problem?

I don't know of any other way to jump from a user to a superuser other than using "su"

What's sudoer? and is it something better to use than "su"?

About sudo: http://fedorasolved.org/post-install-solutions/sudo. Adding user name into visudo file (i.e. make user sudoer) let user to get root privileges by executing
    Code:
    sudo <command>
with or without typing user's (not root) password instead of loggin in as root.

sudo gedit show no startup time error messages unlike su -c 'gedit'.
