    Fullscreen in Flash doesn't work

    Just as the title says, the fullscreen feature in Flash video players such as youtube does not work in Fedora 13 on my computer. Videos play fine in the window, though. When I press the fullscreen button, the area where the video was playing turns gray and the sound stops playing. I've tried fiddling with some settings in Compiz but it didn't seem to help. I had Flash Player 10 installed initially, when it started having this problem, and then I installed 10.1 and it continued doing this. Any ideas?

    HTML5 fun.
    Code:
    <!DOCTYPE html>
    <html>
    <body>
    <video>
        <source src='audacityrecording.ogg' type='video/ogg; codecs="theora, vorbis"'>
    Your browser does not support the video tag.
    </video>
    </body>
    </html>
    One day nobody will need flash.

    For your problem would you bee willing to open /tmp and play the video from there?

    I'm having the same problem. I even downgraded to flash-plugin-10.0.45.2-release.i386, but that didn't help. I've tested this in YouTube and Hulu. I'm using xorg-x11-drv-intel-2.11.0-4.fc13

    Re: Fullscreen in Flash doesn't work

    Not sure if this is related. I am oftentimes having Fedora completely freeze when playing youtube type videos full screen, Sometimes the video would play all the way through, and othertimes it would not (I am talking about the same video). I discovered by accident that this did not seem to happen if I left the video windowed. I also noticed that just a few seconds before the freeze, there is a machine gun stutter sound, then no sound and a complete desktop freeze. I have to use the power button to perform a hard shutdown. Even the SysRq 'Magic Keys' do not work.

    This is when using the Opera browser. I have not really tried this with Firefox. This is with an ATI gpu using the open source radeon driver and no 3D effects.

    I have no problem playing the same full screen videos with VLC once they are on my hard drive. I was suspecting the internet connection was causing the freeze, but I may be off base.

    Re: Fullscreen in Flash doesn't work

    I have the same issue. It happens in Firefox, Chrome and Opera. I am using Fedora 13, 64-bit edition. Other than in full screen, flash works perfectly. This is not just in YouTube but in other sites I visited too. Video just hands when I go fullscreen (No sound/video) and it resumes when I exit fullscreen.

    Other than going fullscreen, you can use the Greasemonkey script "YouTubeEnhancer" to resize the flash window (Only on YouTube though... ) from 320, 640 to MAX fit so if your browser is made fullscreen and you click on MAX, its nearly as good as the YouTube fullscreen button.

    Re: Fullscreen in Flash doesn't work

    I have a similar problem with flash. Everytime I want to play flash in fullscreen, the window maximizes but the picture freezes and I am only able to hear the sound of the video.
    I have Fedora 13 64 bit installed using nspluginwrapper in Epiphany 64 bit.

    Re: Fullscreen in Flash doesn't work

    I've found a dirty workaround here: http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=245615

    To be true, I never had a Fedora distribution (since FC 6 when I started using compiz) where compiz worked without any problems.

    Works well on KDE with KWin. Must be an issue with Compiz....

    Re: Fullscreen in Flash doesn't work

    It depends greatly what site I go to here.
    I use KDE, have an Intel graphics card and must turn off kwin desktop effects to get full screen flash player working on most sites.
    Sites like youtube (In 360p, 480p lags a tiny bit but fully usable windowed) And Channel four's 4 OD work in full screen, however BBC's iPlayer will not play in full screen without a noticeable out of sync sort of distort.

    I'm pretty sure that you definitely need to turn desktop effects off in any desktop (Unless you have a really powerful system and independent gpu) If you want to watch flash videos in full screen because the flash plugin is so badly engineered that it has no way to announce to the window manager that it is going into full screen and to turn off the window effects during that time.

    Also, I've had to downgrade to the version previous to the flash-plugin 10.1 release because the new version uses significantly more cpu power for exactly the same videos, has re-connection/signal loss issues and wouldn't play many online videos which the previous versions did.

    All in all, I can't wait for html 5 to be approved, all of the html 5 video demos I've tried here work fine in full screen and don't generally send the processor into a spaz anywhere near as much as the flash-plugin does.

    Thanks,
    Zanpactou
