    Re: Linksys AE1000 drivers

I built a src.rpm, you are more than welcome to try it. Maybe we can get it added to the repos

    I build the rpm using:

    rpmbuild -ba ./SPECS/rt3572sta-kmod.spec

    or for just binaries:

    rpmbuild -bb ./SPECS/rt3572sta-kmod.spec

    Re: Linksys AE1000 drivers

ddreggors: Thanks for the source rpm. I built it and when I try to install it it complains I don't have rt2870-firmware.

    error: Failed dependencies:
    rt2870-firmware is needed by kmod-rt3572sta-2.5.0.0-1.fc16.i686

I searched the net for rt2870-firmware (it wasn't in the fedora repos) and tried to install that but:

file /lib/firmware/rt2870.bin from install of rt2870-firmware-22-1.el6.elrepo.noarch conflicts with file from package linux-firmware-20120206-0.1.git06c8f81.fc16.noarch

How did you resolve this conflict on your system?

    Re: Linksys AE1000 drivers

I patched the source rpm to remove that unnecessary firmware dependency and I also added a patch to enable the flashing LED control on the AE1000 adapter.

    Re: Linksys AE1000 drivers

    JEO, thanks...

I had already started removing dependancy and rebuilding.

I removed dependancy but added the firmware needed to this rpm. I also added the modprobe.d conf file to the rpm that is mentioned in the original post.

The spec file was originally from the centos el6 repo. The source was the pure source from ralinktech patched as described. Sorry for missing the dependancy.

    What patch did you add?

I think we should merge our changes since mine adds the needed firmware and the conf file, and your adds the LED support.

    Re: Linksys AE1000 drivers

OK should have done my homework, the firmware (rt2870.bin) is provided already by the linux-firmware package I will remove the firmware from my src package but leave the conf file I added.

    Re: Linksys AE1000 drivers

I downloaded your src.rpm and used rpm2cpio to get your patch, didn't catch that LED line in the mk file previously, thanks!

I rebuilt mine now, this time no dependancies and no firmware. I have included the '/etc/modprobe.d/rt3572sta.conf'. I have left the original source as it is when downloaded from ralink. I created 3 patches and use the patches in the spec file. Using rpm2cpio on my src.rpm will give the source, the patches, the rt3572sta.conf file, and the spec file. This way you can review all changes made.

    Re: Linksys AE1000 drivers

It works fine now, thanks. Personally, I don't need /etc/modprobe.d/rt3572sta.conf as I already had rt2800usb blacklisted and don't desire the alias for ra0 on my system.

    Re: Linksys AE1000 drivers

    JEO,
understood... my thought was that others will undoubtedly *not* have the 'rt2800usb' driver blacklisted and may or may not want the alias.

It seems a better idea to leave the conf file in the rpm and allow users to decide on removing the alias manually, removing the file itself manually, or leaving it in. The thought being "it is better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it"

I have added a Fedora Wiki page for feature request/review. It can be seen here:

Incase you were wondering, Fedora 16 supports this device out of the box. I don't know when the support arrived, but I just plugged it in again, and it "just works" if you have the following package installed:
    linux-firmware-20120206-0.1.git06c8f81.fc16.noarch

Thanks, I am using F17 on my laptop now and have not needed the usb device for some time. I will remember that for any F17 desktops I may need wireless on.
