Upgrade from F11 to F12 Xorg screen problem

    Dear all,

I used preugrade command then executed the upgrade (it took more than 4 hours) and I had a success message at the end saying that I have now to reboot.
But now I have no more Xorg working, and I had to boot from the live CD to mount the LVM disk to report this problem (thanks to the live CD :-))
Looking at the Xorg.0.log the reported error is:
(II) Primary Device is: PCI 01@00:00:0
The PCI device has a kernel module claiming it.
This driver cannot operate until it has been unloaded
    (EE) No devices detected.

    Fatal server error:
    no screens found
Could you tell me what I must do now to get back Xorg?

Here below is the full log:

I tried to remove and re-install Xorg, without success.
    Then I installed kmod-nvidia and executed nvidia-xconfig.
The log says that I have to configure the kernel without nvidiafb support, but I don't know how to do it, and even if it is a good idea.
Could you tell me what I must do to resolve that ?

I noticed that if I remove the /etc/X11/xorg** files, I can use startx but no much more

I don't know if this helps, but I renamed xorg.conf to xorg.conf.x. This left no xorg.conf. I then removed all NVIDIA by using "yum erase *nvidia". then I installed NVIDIA by using "yum install akmod-nvidia". This installed all needed, set-uo xorg and all components and worked well. It also updates with new kernel releases automatically.

If that works for you, then I created a simple script that brings your personal NVIDIA settings back with each boot, as does a Windows machine, but is not so automated in Linux.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks GTrip,

    I followed your advice and removed alll nvidia packages, then removed /etc/X11/xorg.conf* and executed;
    system-config-display --noui --set-drived=nouveau
I tried an Xorg -configure that failed and rebooted.
Surprisingly I have now Xorg working (youpi ) and get back my gnome environment.

    Regards

    Auto Start Script

I created an auto start entry to one script. Only one entry need be made in "auto start" to this script for all you wish to happen at start-up. You then can modify this one script easily without making any additional changes to the system.

Attached is a copy of what I use on my desktop machine. Alter and use what fits your needs.

I created a "bin" directory. Copy and paste the text into a file. chmod ugo+x (filename). Go to your Auto_Start (I use KDE) in "System Settings and add an entry for the filename of the script.

What I have in mine is to apply my personal appearance settings for NVIDIA and to also start the xscreensaver (quietly). You can mount external drives or do whatever you wish from this script.

    Good luck and enjoy!
