Fedora 12 : File Manager Not Responding
Hi, 1 week ago I updated my box, and after the reboot and installation of the new kernel 2.6.31.6-166.fc12.i168.PAE the desktop background and the icons of it disappear, and when i click to open the home dear, it loads and than do nothing.
I can't right click on the desktop and when i shot down the system it pop's up to me "A program is still running"
File Manager
Not Responding
Sow, first i think is a bug (spread) , and with the next update it will bee fixed but now after 1 week, i updated my system and nothing changes.
I can't browse anything, and for now bash is the only friend for me.
ANY HELP?
EDIT:
For info, the same thing happens when i boot with the old kernel

(yes i have gnome`nautilius) I think your problem was a little different because my problem is permanent and i can't click even File Management and this because the File manager is all ways in crash.
+No icons on desktop,
+I see the default desktop background on it (and is not my desktop background)
When i go to Places>anywhere it loads for 3 sec and then doe's nothing.
In conclusion, anything that uses OR is the File Manager is unusable.
Help~me~

Your problem sounds more like messed up settings than a program problem. I suggest you create another user and log in as that . If that works there is something in your settings that is causing the problem.

Thanks for the reply
I created a new account and logged in with it but nothing changed.
I really don't like to play allot with the settings, i use my box for writing code in java , watching movies, and using the net.
Thanks again, any idea?

Yesterday I had the same problem on my laptop dell 1420 under fedora 12, so I believe that is an update problem, and I fix it with the next command like root...
# yum-complete-transaction
Now reboot your system!
That's it!

I have the same problem. Symptoms:
No icons on the desktop
Can't right click the desktop
Any nautilus style windows (Places > Home) do nothing
Attempted fixes:
Checked show desktop in gconf-editor
Restarted several times
Deleted .g* out of ~
Logged into another user
Reinstalled nautilus
It's still broken.
Edit:
So I moved the .g* and .nautilus back into their normal spots and rebooted, then everything was back to normal. The other user account suddenly fixed itself too. Weird.

Problem fixed
I fixed the problem with the explication in the first post...
like root on the terminal:
# yum-complete-transaction
and then restart your system.

Tried that. This was a fresh install with only 'yum update', yum has/had no incomplete transactions. I've got my main account working, but my secondary is still broken for whatever reason.

i had a similar issue on my new desktop - worked fine after install, did a yum update and then when i logged in all i had was my wallpaper, no panels, icons, nothing.
after another yum update and logging into a kde session, then back into gnome, its seemed to fix itself.
i gotta say f12 is a lot less reliable than f10 (what's with all the pulseaudio rubbish?!) its better than f11 at least though, roll on f13 for some real fixes i say.
