X will not boot after F10 update (Solved)

    Hi

I have successfully upgrade from F9 to F10 using the DVD - I thought all was well - until F10 updated itself through yum last nite for the 1st time (it was approx 280mb download) - now I cannot get into X.

My error messages are almost identical (in terms of X error messages) to this now closed thread:

    http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=204443

However the yum installed suggested solution at the end of the above thread fails for me:

    Code:
    sudo yum install akmod-nvidia-173xx xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-173xx xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-173xx-libs

That card should work with any of the drivers, vesa, nv and nvidia.

So what's wrong with my xorg.conf?

Sorted it - being a bit of a twit. The mistake was fairly obvious. Particularly once I doubled checked:

    Code:
    sudo rpm -qa --last|grep kmod*
I found the date order showed that the following were upgraded through yum

    Code:
    kmod-nvidia-2.6.27.5-41.fc9.i686-173.14.15-1.fc9.6.i686
    kmod-nvidia-2.6.26.6-79.fc9.i686-173.14.12-6.fc9.2.i686
    kmod-nvidia-2.6.27.5-37.fc9.i686-173.14.15-1.fc9.5.i686
    xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-177.82-1.fc10.i386
    kmod-nvidia-177.82-1.fc10.4.i686
    xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs-177.82-1.fc10.i386
    kmod-nvidia-2.6.27.5-117.fc10.i686-177.82-1.fc10.4.i686
    Obviously my yum install
    Code:
    sudo yum install akmod-nvidia-173xx xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-173xx xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-173xx-libs
    was a downgrade!

I then removed 177.82 versions of the driver and re-tried the above - all worked fine.

After all I should have read in a bit more detail the orginal xorg error log:

    Code:
(WW) NVIDIA(0): The NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 GPU installed in this system is
(WW) NVIDIA(0): supported through the NVIDIA 173.14.xx Legacy drivers.
(WW) NVIDIA(0): Please visit http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html for
(WW) NVIDIA(0): more information. The 177.82 NVIDIA driver will ignore
(WW) NVIDIA(0): this GPU. Continuing probe...
    (EE) No devices detected.
    D'oh.

Please marked this self-inflicted and self-fixed thread as solved
