    Gdesklets problem

    Hi everyone,

I am trying to use gDesklets in a Fedora 9 environment with kernel 2.6.25.3-18.fc9.x86_64.

When I type gdesklets into the terminal, I get this output:

    Code:
    Starting gdesklets-daemon...
Connected to daemon in 607 milliseconds. ==========================================================[05/18/08-19:46:46]===

    [---] 71 while (True):
    [---] 72 try:
    [---] 73 length = ord(s.recv(1))
    [---] 74 except:
    [ERR]> 75 raise XDRError
    [---] 76
    [---] 77 if (length): chunk += s.recv(length)
    [---] 78
    [---] 79 flag = s.recv(1)
    [---]   80         if (flag == _CONT): continue
    [---] 81
I have tried a yum remove followed by a reinstall. Clicking Applications -> Accessories -> Gdesklets results in an empty window that never finishes loading.

Any suggestions, or even just help interpreting that help message?

    Thanks in advance.

As a side note, I am using a nvidia card with the supplied nv driver (I haven't had any trouble with it to date), could this be causing some sort of issue?

I'm having exactly the same problem with gDesklets as you describe here, did you ever get to the bottom of it?

I've tried a few thing now to get it to run, all to no avail??

I suppose I should have added my spec. to the post... a similar setup to korovamilk by the looks of it.

No, I never did figure out a solution to the problem. I haven't really tried to get it to work after the initial struggle with gdesklets.

I'm not really sure what the issue is, although I'd love to get to the bottom of this.

Mmmm... yeah, I'd love to know what the problem is, I've done a fair bit of searching round now for a solution and can't seem to get any further. I think we might benefit from posting this thread in the x86_64-bit forum, I'll put a link to it to see if anyone else has similar issues...

    Hello,
I attempted to reproduce the step from the original poster without issue on x64 hardware using the same kernel.
Have you checked if you have an old gdesklets installed?

    Hi Finalzone,

I've checked out which version of gDesklets is installed on my machine, 0.36, which, according to http://www.gdesklets.de/ is the latest version. Still getting the same output as Shadowofthesun above though??

Update to the latest kernel and let know if the problem still occurs.

Is there a later kernel than 2.6.25.6-55.fc9.x86_64? My system is reporting as being fully up to date.

I failed to reproduce the error as my x84 gdesklets runs without an issue. From the terminal, type
    Code:
    gdesklets status
    and
    Code:
    gdesklets check
    and submit the result.

Thanks for working on this one Finalzone, here goes:-

    # gdesklets status

    Code:
    gdesklets-daemon is not running
    # gdesklets check

    Code:
    Checking requirements:
     - sys ... found
     - xml.parsers.expat ... found
     - xml.sax ... found
     - gtk ... found
     - ORBit ... found
     - bonobo.ui ... found
Requirements checking done. Your system looks ok!
If I try to run either command as root, I get the message that I MUST not run gDesklets as super user.

Same error as original post when trying to execute???

    ...any further suggestions?
