After doing all the stuff on this thread I still cant get mine to work. Ive installed the synaptics driver and the config tool and I get the chfconfig needs to be set to true and it still dosent work. Touchpad mouse will move but will not click on tap nor the actual click buttons will not work.

    Hello IronFox

If you've done those and your touchpad still doesn't work it's probable that your touchpad is not synaptics but an Alps Glidepoint.

    Those need some extra configuration.

I got mine to work by adding the following:

    Section "ServerLayout"
    Identifier "Default Layout"
    Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0
    InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"
    InputDevice "Synaptics" "CorePointer"
    EndSection

    Section "InputDevice"
    Identifier "Synaptics"
    Driver "synaptics"
    Option "SendCoreEvents"
    Option "TapButton1" "1"
    Option "TapButton2" "2"
    Option "TapButton3" "3"
    Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
    Option "Protocol" "auto-dev"
    Option "Emulate3Buttons" "yes"
    Option "LeftEdge" "120"
    Option "RightEdge" "920"
    Option "TopEdge" "120"
    Option "BottomEdge" "680"
    Option "FingerLow" "14"
    Option "FingerHigh" "15"
    Option "MaxTapMove" "110"
    Option "VertScrollDelta" "20"
    Option "HorizScrollDelta" "20"
    Option "MinSpeed" "0.4"
    Option "MaxSpeed" "0.99"
    Option "AccelFactor" "0.035"
    Option "MinTapTime" "110"
    Option "MaxTapTime" "350"
    Option "ClickTime" "0"
    EndSection
Some of the "Section "ServerLayout"" you will probably already have.

    Option "MinSpeed" "0.4"
    Option "MaxSpeed" "0.99"
    Option "AccelFactor" "0.035"
    control pointer movement, and:

    Option "FingerLow" "14"
    Option "FingerHigh" "15"
control tapping. This final section controls double tapping and by extension "tap to drag"

    Option "MinTapTime" "110"
    Option "MaxTapTime" "350"
    Option "ClickTime" "0"
Give it a try and post back if you have any questions.

    Hello,

I've an Dell Vostro 1310 with Alps Glidepoint and configured it with hal. Here is an explanation about this problem: http://who-t.blogspot.com/2008/07/in...n-nutshell.htm . if you put this file into /etc/hal/fdi/10-synaptics.fdi and tweak it a little bit your touchpad should work after a reboot.

    /etc/hal/fdi/10-synaptics.fdi

    Code:
    c/h<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
    <deviceinfo version="0.2">
      <device>
        <match key="info.capabilities" contains="input.touchpad">

Guys, i have changed my xorg.conf to enable "tap to click" and increase the speed wich was very slow.

But after i suspend the computer, when i turn it back on, my tap to click is gone and my speed is back to slowness.

Anybody got similar issue? Any ideas how to fix it?

Ok now the taping works with that driver but the speed is still slow =o

That is weird, i think it should work either all or none

    Any suggestions?

But the speed is perfect, until i suspend the laptop.
The speed is adjusted already in xorg.conf.

So when i'm back from suspend the speed is really low.

I tried gsynaptic anyway, but found it quite useless to me. The changes don't seem to have effect.

And also, coming back from suspend and having to open gsynaptic to re-adjust speed each time is not a solution..
