Angry Acer Aspire 3630 Wireless Communication Problems

    Hello,

I have recently installed Fedora 7 on my Acer Aspire 3630 laptop only to find 'Ah! No wireless drivers for a broadcom wireless adapter' As I use my wireless when i use my laptop this has caused a problem because I hate having wires going across the floor.

Any help in getting my broadcom drivers going for a wireless adapter would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

Hello this is one way if you have a broadcom 43xxx
    su -
    wget http://downloads.openwrt.org/sources...0.53.0.tar.bz2
    tar xvf broadcom-wl-4.80.53.0.tar.bz2
    cd broadcom*
    cd kmod
    /usr/bin/bcm43xx-fwcutter -w /lib/firmware wl_apsta.o
or there is ndiswrapper, and there is lots in here about that

Buy a cheap (Fedora compatible) USB wireless dongle until you can find working drivers for the broadcom device.

    first
    /sbin/lspci | grep Broadcom
so we know what card you even have?
also do some reading on ndiswrapper it uses windoze drivers to get your wireless going.
my card is a Broadcom Dell 1390 Mini-PCI, I use ndiswrapper with the windows drivers there are plenty of how-to's around here. What have you tried?

Also I think DangerMouse missed a little something
    Code:
    su -
    wget http://downloads.openwrt.org/sources/broadcom-wl-4.80.53.0.tar.bz2
    tar -xvf broadcom-wl-4.80.53.0.tar.bz2
    cd broadcom*
    cd kmod
    /usr/bin/bcm43xx-fwcutter -w /lib/firmware wl_apsta.o

    what does that mean?
no worries brother you need the kernel-devel package, you will need this anytime you build a kernel module

    Code:
    yum install kernel-devel
    then try again

P.S. no need for the instant messages bro, I check back here often

Hey, this is a related question:

On my Acer Aspiron 5050 laptop, whenever I reinstall Vista, the wireless doesn't work right away and I download and install these Broadcom drivers from Acer's site. However, the actual device name for the wireless is

    Code:
    [root@epsilon ~]# lspci | grep 802
02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications, Inc. AR5006EG 802.11 b/g Wireless PCI Express Adapter (rev 01)
Would the steps to install the Broadcom ndiswrapper still work? Or should I be looking for something to do with Atheros drivers?

    Code:
    [root@epsilon ~]# lspci | grep Broadcom
    [root@epsilon ~]# lspci | grep broadcom
    [root@epsilon ~]#

This howto should also get you going using the 'built in driver' .

Cuvou yours is easy have a look here
normally id say install from livna but there is a dependency problem at the moment as the kernels do not match, livna is a bit ahead or vice versa.
