Hibernated NTFS partition won't wake up.

Hello I'm very new to Linux but trying.

My windows system crashed so I bought a new hard drive, installed fedora and now I want to use the old hard drive external through 2.0USB.

Now when I try to mount the HD, the computer tells me:

Cannot mount volume. Unable to mount the volume 'IBM_PRELOAD'. Details: Windows is hibernated, won't mount. Failed to mount '/dev/sdb1': Operation not permitted The NTFS partition is hibernated. Please resume and shutdown windows properly, so mounting could be done safely.

Obviously, I can't run windows anymore and the less can I shut it down properly. What to do? On the hard drive is extremely important data that mustn't be lost.

    please help a poor peasant.

Try this in a terminal as root:

    Code:
    mount -t ntfs-3g -o force /dev/sdb1 /media/windows
You will need to create the folder /media/windows.

Nope, doesn't work. Still says the same thing, about hibernation and restarting properly.
    Thanks for the advice though.

    Read-only mount is allowed.
    Code:
    mount -t ntfs-3g -o ro /dev/sdb1 /media/windows

Read only mode worked! Thank you.
