Pop up window after loading desktop requesting password for a website??

    Hi all,

Got a big surprise when I booted up the PC today. As soon as KDE finished loading the desktop, the dialog window shown in the attached image popped open asking for a username and password to access a site. From the details it mentions happypenguin.org. I haven't been to their website for a while, but I do have a RSS feed from them in my KNewsticker that was updating at the time.

I just closed the dialog window and I haven't seen it again (only restarted the session once since though).

Anybody seen this before, or know what it is about? It kinda reminds me of Windows popup spyware problems ...

    Thanks.

Could it be that you shut down, without closing the web browser, while accessing a password protected portion of the site? The desktop state will be saved when you shutdown. Once you restart, the browser will try to access the site again...
This can be adjusted through the kcontrol (KDE)...not sure how it works in gnome.

That would make sense as the session was being restored, but I haven't visited happypenguin.org for a while now, and certainly have never tried to access some password protected page of the website.

I am suspecting the RSS feed I have from happypenguin.org. I was wondering if for some reason that dialog window got spat out because of some glitch in updating the feed from that website. Maybe someone else had seen it too?

    All very strange.

Righto. Well I see happypenguin moved to a new server on the 9th. I am wildly speculating that my RSS feed source briefly took a slight detour when trying to download the updates and that resulted in my popup window, as the timing would be about right. I haven't seen that popup since, even after doing a manual "check news" on that feed.

Don't need to go looking for a Linux version of Spybot Search & Destroy afterall.
