FC6 Install with the Disk Error 80 problem

Trying to install FC 6 on a previous XP home system.

    The setup...
ASUS A7V mobo with AMD Athlon 1.2mhz chip
    512 meg SDRAM
    Western Digital 40g hard drive
    ATA100 controll on mobo
older HP Cd-ROM/writer. (don't have the model # available)

    The error on installation...
    isolinux: Disk error 80, AX = 42D9 drive 9F
    Some information:
sha1sum verified the checksums on all 6 ISO images.
In my BIOS, I have the CD-ROM listed as the first boot device.
It seems that from my searching that some people think it could be the CD-ROM, the ATA100 controller, the BIOS, or the hard drive.
My next step would be to reinstall XP home (which may remove the HD as the culprit), and update the Award BIOS (which would remove the BIOS as the culprit), and then try re-installing FC 6.
I don't really want to buy another CD-ROM if I don't need to, I'll try to upgrade the firmware after I get XP home reinstalled.
I don't think the problem would be with the ATA100 simply because the similar problems I found were for older distributions of RH Linux.

Does anybody know for sure if this error applies to the CD-ROM, BIOS, controller, or hard drive, so I could eliminate one from my troubleshooting?

Check that you're burning your ISO's properly, at a slow speed. You might want to try this excellent burning program: http://www.cdburnerxp.se/ instead. You know not to burn it as a 'data' file - it must be as an 'image'. Of course, there's always the 'cheap media' possibility.

I'm going to try swapping CD-ROMs, the discs were burnt at at a slow speed on a different PC with a better and newer drive, than the one the discs are trying to be installed from.

Ahhh...yep, that could be the problem! Not all CD-RW's recognize each other's work. Swap the drives and use the one you burned them with and I'll bet they install.

I tried installation disk 1 in another computer and got the same message, so I assumed it was the disk, which was burned using ISORecorderV2RC1.

I got a new CD ROM and reburned disk 1 with a different software package, CD Burner XP Pro 3, which is free. I got into the mediacheck part of the Fedora installation distro now, so it must have been a corrupted disk. I'll run the media check on all the other ones and see if it finds problems with those too.

    Thanks for your help.

I recieved a similar error after burning an image with ISORecorder V2 as well (don't have the txt of the error with me). I will have to look at the settings on that application. It did seem to burn the image much quicker then the previous burn software I was using, so maybe it burns the image at too high of a speed.
