    new to Linux eth0 fails to load at boot nic is rtl8139

    redhat 6.1 Bringing up eth0 interface: Delaying eth0 initialization: FAILED
    need all the help i can get.
    step by step if possible.

    If you are new in Linux, I suggest you go to:

    Administration -> Network

    and check how your interface card are configured.

    still has the same failure. I was told that i should upgrade to 6.2 where can i download from

    RedHat is a really old distribution, I suggest if you have at least 256 MB RAM memory, download FC 6 at:

    http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Distribution/Download

    1. Type in a terminal "ifconfig" and see what that says about your eth0
    2. Consider upgrading to a recent version of Fedora Core (the community successor to RedHat 5/6), because RedHat 6 is really very old...

    Better is to install FC 6, may be your harware can't be configured properly with so old distribution.

    it is an old gateway 2000 solo 2100 1.3gb hd. I was looking for something to training on until i get the knowledge to move up.

    That means you don't have an ethernet connection. Your network interface card may be broken, or Red Hat 6 does not recognize it. A year ago I tried to install Red Hat 5.2 on a not so old machine, and that gave similar problems: no hard disk found etc. Newer versions work with more hardware.

    Perhaps you can download a live CD version of FC6.
