VIA/S3 UniChrome Pro Integrated, will it work?

    Hi
I have an onboard grafics card, VIA/S3 UniChrome Pro Integrated. I'm using it because my AGP one broke down, and I wanted to know if it will work on Fedora. I'm currently using Ubuntu 5.04 and it works fine, but I want to switch to fedora. Will I have problems?
    Thanks

Yes. it will work; right now I'm using it on my Asus K8V-MX motherboard; when I installed it was detected but the xorg.conf file was set as "vesa" and I had to change it to "via" (selecting "VIA Unichrome" in the video settings).

    Hello
I have an Amilo Pro v2030 laptop with VN800 chipset, S3 UniChrome Pro IGP graphic. I installed Fedora 12 but the resolution can not be set correctly. When using openchrome, the screen looks terrible, when using vesa only 800x600 available.

Have anyone experienced similar issue? Please help

But of course, take the above with a grain of salt...

    Hello
No it does not help. Basically, what I need is a way how to make the openchrome driver working properly with my chipset. Has someone reported it already? I could not find.

I have integrated S3 Unichrome Pro graphic card in a laptop as well . . .

There are some options in /etc/xorg.conf file available to tweak this graphics card for better performance
that I am also trying . . . not always working so well with default settings I guess in all linux distros.

It depends on the exact issue of course but just as an idea here is is one example
and if the right option could be a nice fix . . . just to let you know and encourage that it will probably work out ok -
even if this is not the fix exactly for your case . . .
    /etc/xorg.conf file
    Code:
    Section "Device"
            Driver "openchrome"
            Option "XaaNoImageWriteRect"
        EndSection
this link has a list of the possibilities . . .

Re: VIA/S3 UniChrome Pro Integrated, will it work?

    Hi!
I'm using mainboard msi k8mm-v, also is intergrated S3 Graphics UniChrome Pro .
I installed FC 11. Monitor works well but slow. Mplayer can not play well DVD vob file.
When I tried with FC 6 , then mplayer can handle the file completely, video was very smooth.
    Why ?

Re: VIA/S3 UniChrome Pro Integrated, will it work?

oh! yeah! Now my computer can play smoothly video.
    Perhaps the way will be:
    - Go to http://www.openchrome.org/trac/wiki/Installation , install from svn . If you encounter error messages, you can " yum intall libdri mesa-lib" .
    - And then configure, open /etx/X11/xorg.conf and add some line.. , http://www.openchrome.org/trac/wiki/Configuration
    - rebuild mplayer with --enable-xvmc .

    enjoying!
