Why don't we start a petition?

    Hi all

as we all know, the linux driver support is usually CRAP. So i was thinking, why don't we start a petition on line ? I thought of this because MSI (they're 1st tier!!!) has a great software (msi liveupdate) but it's only for windows! So, why only windows users should have a click-click firmware updater

I think the only way to get a decent driver/software support from the main producers is to show them that we are a good market opportunity (hell, i like msi's hardware, 90% of the mainboard i sell is theirs).

I'm in direct contact with msi italy, i think we can show them we are many (and if you have smt else...sign anyway )

    EDIT

Here you can find the petition ! Sign it !

I'd sign it if you like... Although it may work, it won't make much difference. My bet is they'll "forget" in a few years, or their Linux version of the software will be a lot crappier. A half-@$$ job. Plus, then we'd have to do it for every company we want Linux drivers for... To much time & effort. One day, they'll come to their senses on their own. Until then, my philosophy is to support only companies who have Linux drivers out there. (Asus, Gigabyte, Nvidia, etc)

sincerly i'm skeptical too, but we should start from something , we can't live forever waiting for them to say "hey, they need support too!"

I've sent a PM to one of the administrators on PCLOS to ask permission to link it there. Perhaps anyone with membership in other Forums could do likewise?

Because we shouldn't have to petition them. They should release specs so we can make the drivers ourselves and not be their slaves. You may think you're free because you can make a petition, but the fact that you even need to make a petition here means that you're not free.

ok, I signed the petition!...com'on folks we need a few more signatures!

athing, although having the companies release the specs of the hardware so that folks can write linux drivers is a good idea, I think that when we buy hardware (it is the part of all of our systems that is not FREE) we should also receive the drivers to operate it...

OK, I signed. Good idea, but I fear it wont be noticed. Someone should do this for Macromedia and get them moving on a 64 bit flash player.
