Re: Horribly disappointed in FireFox 57.1

I've not seen a sluggish problem either. Lockup once in a while... Yes, have had that. All I use is FF (Windows and Linux) and the only 'add-ons' I install are the ad blockers.... As far as I am...

Re: Linux Standard Base Adoption/Development

Standards are good. Like the Posix standards. Allows programs to recompile and run. One thing I do wish was 'standardized' is just locations of config files and naming. Networking comes to mind when...

Re: Motherboard and graphics card choice for AMD 1700

As for motherboard ... the last 3 I've bought we all GigaByte boards (one Intel, two AMD). All functioned as advertised (YMMV of course). I like the 'thick' solid feel of the boards too. Not the...

Re: Linux is growing

And that is a matter of personal taste. Win7 was the last 'good' Windoze UI as far as I am concerned. In Linux, at least you have a choice of picking the UI that fits how you work/play. I chose...

Re: Linux is growing

Only thing going for this is you know that Linux will run on the laptop. If I bought one of these, I'd load the linux distro of 'my' choice.

As above, for me, if I need Windows for some reason...

Re: Linux is growing

Yeah, I know they are out there and order one straight from Dell ... but try to find one pre-loaded with Linux that is on sale... Say during the holiday season or school sales where sometimes...

Re: Linux is growing

:) . Your saying you was 'stuck' and couldn't buy the tower with a good OS on it right? ;) . Part of the Linux problem of not being offered pre-loaded on computers for distribution in the big box...

Re: Need help transferring to SSD.

Just a suggestion. I'd setup the SDD with Windows and Fedora and make sure it works as you wish. Then worry about moving data. After your satisfied, then in Fedora, I'd just mount the old drive...

Re: This is why you should not buy Asus !

Speaking of laptops, back in June I bought an on sale Dell which had 8GB and an I7-7500U, SSD in it. After bringing up Windoze to make sure it booted ok, I laid down the latest Linux Mint right...

Re: Problems with drives when installing Fedora 26

baobab is nice.

dnf -y install baobab

Note run it as root to see everything. If you use sudo, then -> sudo baobab. I personally always drop to the root prompt with 'su -' command and then run...

Re: F26 and AMD Ryzen ... Works!

Thanks for the information. Appreciate it.

System is running like a Swiss Watch right now. So unless I run into any more issues, this will be my last update (unless someone has a question that...

Re: F26 and AMD Ryzen ... Works!

Thanks. I stuck with rpmfusion. Loaded the Nvidia driver for the 750Ti. No problem. Loaded VirtualBox no problem. Again checked dmesg and all looks well there. Everything appears clean at this...

Re: F26 and AMD Ryzen ... Works!

I am guessing... Because it is randomly seg faulting in a bunch of different applications, I was thinking memory is something I can try to change things up as I have two sticks, as the manual says...

Re: F26 and AMD Ryzen ... Works!

Yeah ... Holding ... Still playing. I pulled one of the ram sticks this morning, and we seem to run on the live-dvd without error (at the moment). Down to 16GB, one stick. Need to run, but will let...

Re: F26 and AMD Ryzen ... Works!

For the Fedora system yes 7.1.1.

Yep, RMA sounds like the next step. But sounds like a bunch of hoops to jump through.

The ram I got was the DDR4-2133 F4-2133C15D-32GFX (16GBx2). Basically the...

Re: F26 and AMD Ryzen ... Works!

I used LXDE with Fedora. You can see the 'fault's sometimes when the system starts to boot and hangs. If it does run, you see the fault with the applications you pull up. Say firefox, or a...

Re: F26 and AMD Ryzen ... Works!

Well, bad news .... I am seg faulting all over the place now. I've updated to latest BIOS, etc. and problem exists. Not distro dependent. Seg faults can happen anywhere. Very easy to reproduce. ...

Re: F26 and AMD Ryzen ... Works!

Went through and update cycle/reboot no problem with new kernel (4.12.5-300.fc26.x86_64 #1 SMP) now on-line. No problems (no seg-faults, NVidia continues to work). Haven't shut down the computer...

Re: F26 and AMD Ryzen ... Works!

VirtualBox 5.1.26 is up and running. Much much faster than the old system. Seem close to 'native' speed now even with four VMs running :) . Did have to enable SVM and SMT in the board BIOS for it to...

Re: F26 and AMD Ryzen ... Works!

I will plan on giving an updates as this progresses.

I didn't go with the 1700 mainly because it costs ~80 bucks more. The performance from the 1600 with 6 cores and 12 threads is way better than...

F26 and AMD Ryzen ... Works!

Today, I upgraded my R&D system. New Motherboard, New CPU, and New Memory.
Ryzen 5 1600, GigaByte AB350-Gaming 3, and 32G of DD4 RAM. Booted right out of the gate. Can't ask for a nicer build. I...
