I've got the exact same problem. I tried to add this to the kernel boot command line : acpi=off

It works, fedora starts but no sound with the PCMCIA card ... Can you try ?

yum list ieee80211* normally give you the name of the module.
Install it with --> yum install ieee80211 (complete name without the i386 or else ...)

I'm not sure, but i think that it's not possible to use vmware with a Xen kernel ...

I'm not sure, but i think that you don't need to install a kernel module for the ipw2200. Normally it is included in the kernel.

Did you installed the iwconfig util ?
