gigabit nic not connecting at full speed

i have a on board RTL8111/8168B nic:

Code:

04:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller (rev 01)
and it doesn't seem to connect at 1000Mb/s, its connected to a gigabit switch whick works fine, and i know the onboard is fine, because in windows, it syncs up at 1000M/bs.

ethtool shows:

Code:

[root@localhost lylem]# /sbin/ethtool eth0
Settings for eth0:
        Supported ports: [ TP ]
        Supported link modes:  10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full

        Port: Twisted Pair
        PHYAD: 0

        Supports Wake-on: pumbg
        Wake-on: g
        Current message level: 0x00000033 (51)

i tried changing the speed my self, but it just syncs back up to 100

Code:

[root@localhost lylem]# /sbin/ethtool -s eth0 speed 1000 duplex full autoneg on
any ideas? im at a loss.

ethtool is broken when it comes to anything from realtek it seems - my 8169 negotiaties gigabit according to my switches (and an intel nic in a laptop using crossover cable) and transfer rate, but ethtool reports 100mbps, ethtool -s has no effect.

hmm... well either way, the switch indicates its connected at 100 aswell, must just be something with the driver?

What happens if you change it to autoneg off ?

no go on that one. it doesn't come back if i turn it off. also i checked the cable to make sure its able to connect at those speeds.
