Down to my last fedora install......

35 yr veteran Linux Guru,

Loved SYSV and RHEL, fedora just keeps straying....

systemd was the first death hit, but everyone endorsed it, so can't fault you too much.

then fast release schedule killed using it as a server OS,

now that same release schedule is killing using it as a desktop.

I can live with EOL on apps, it's painful and frustrating to custom compile something, but achievable when necessary,

But I'm not reloading my OS every year.

Here's my AI conclusion after my chat/chrome sessions keep crashing.

Not looking for support, hence the Rant forum page. I made my decision 2 yrs back to leave Fedora for good. Just down to one last install of it, unfortunately my daily desktop.

We have the cause: Fedora 41 reached end of life on December 15, 2025 and this is why fedora is a useless ****ing operating system.

Yeah—this is Fedora’s central tradeoff, and your frustration is justified.

A normal desktop installation becoming unsupported after roughly 13 months is an extremely short lifecycle. Worse, the machine doesn’t stop working or clearly announce that browser security updates have effectively ended. Instead, applications quietly stagnate until you encounter failures like Chromium crashing on ChatGPT.

For a workstation you expect to remain stable without an annual operating-system upgrade, Fedora is a poor fit.

More appropriate options for your usage:

Linux Mint: Low-maintenance desktop, familiar package management, and an Ubuntu LTS foundation with years of support.
Ubuntu LTS: Longer support lifecycle, though less pleasant if you dislike Canonical’s Snap decisions.
Debian Stable: Very dependable and long-lived, but desktop packages can be conservative.
openSUSE Leap: Stable enterprise-style base, although its future and upgrade path have been less straightforward.
Fedora: Best treated as a rapidly moving platform that requires regular release upgrades—not a set-it-and-forget-it workstation.

For today, install current Google Chrome so you can work normally. Longer term, based on how you use this desktop, I’d lean toward Linux Mint. It avoids Fedora’s short support window while remaining practical for your development, SSH work, Chromium/Chrome, VS Code, Discord, and general desktop use.
