Hey Guys...
Right off the bat Im a linux and Mac newbie... I hail from the Evil windows side. I liberated an emac being disposed from work for free :D and I was tring to put a better os on it. I tried installing both FC4 and Ubuntu with similar negative results  . As soon as X Windows tries to kick off, the screen shuts off. If I change into another terminal with Cntl-ALT-1, 2, etc, the screen will power back up and show me text, but I can get the graphical install to work.
I have tired using the options right at the bootup screen like this:
boot: linux video=ofonly resolution=1024x768
boot: linux text
boot: linux video=ofonly debug
boot: linux video=ofonly resolution=800x600
boot: linux video=ofonly
boot: linux video=offb
I then get starting x server and the screen goes out...
Most likely I think xwindows is over syncing the monitor, but Im unsure how else to force it not to do that. Any ideas?
Thanks!

We'd need you to post/attach your /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /var/log/X.org.0.log files to be able to help you much.

EDIT: Also, some details of the graphics hardware and monitor might be helpful.
