Hi Guys,
I have an irritating problem with my zip 250MB IDE drive I wonder if you can help me with. It would appear that HAL always wants to name the device /dev/hdb4 but whenever it tries to mount it mount maintains it can't find the filesystem. I have tried using fdisk and parted to create partition 4 on the drive and mkfs.ext3 with success but I still can't mount the damn thing. It just keeps repeating the same error - no filesystem. The funny thing is I can mount it successfully by hand using mount -t ext3 /dev/hdb and it works. When I do an ls -l on /dev/hdb it tells me it's a block-special device which I find extremely odd as I'm used to seeing it as a character-special (i.e raw) device on previous Linux distros. Anyone any ideas?

Hmm.. Evidently no-one else has had or has heard of the problem. Oh, well!
