open /etc/yum.repos.d and see what repos are in there. If there aren't you have to configure yum

Follow the directions at Stanton Finley's site here: http://stanton-finley.net/fedora_core_4_installation_notes.html

They're great. Start at the beginning in order to get all your yum repositories set up. Read also the note warning about mixing packages from incompatible repositories (the rpmforge group (dries, dag, freshrpms, etc) vs the livna/extras group). Then skip down to the xmms installation part.

Good luck!

Thanks mtl2002 and Nlkrio. Actually I would like to point out that there is no longer any incompatibility between the RPMForge and Fedora Extras repositories.
