Hi All,

Got one here which has me stumped: The sound output on my Inspiron 8200 (Intel 82801 chip) is inconsistant, usually starting off low and getting louder the more you play. At first I thought it was just that the volume was set too low somewhere, but now that I have assigned sounds to various system events I see (hear?) that it's a question of duration, not just volume.

The simplest way to explain it is that I've got a sound assigned to play whenever I change desktops, and that the mouse-wheel is set to change desktops if I scroll it on the desktop. Doing this rapidly does play the sound, but it's fairly quiet on the first iteration, getting louder the more you do it. Other events also produce inconsistant volumes, but this is the easiest way to explain it. :)

Can anyone help me out here please? Technical bits follow:

FC4 (2.6.13-1.1532_FC4) on Dell Inspiron 8200
Control Center > Sound > Hardware Device = Autodetect. Explicitly selecting any one option does not improve the situation, neither does ticking any combination of advanced options, like duplex variation or sampling rate etc.
