The livna.org repository is currently down. Use "--disablerepo=livna" option when using yum until the problem is solved.
This is not a problem with Fedora or yum, livna is an independent third-party repository.

I never had a problem with yum AFAIK. It usually is an issue with the repositories.

I'm also facing the yum error problem for FC4...I believe some time maybe the server problem or internet connectivity problem. After few day ago it become normal ready..

If this problem still happen than u have check your yum config & yum repo files.

Thanks,

"yum update --disablerepo=livna" didnt work for me. try "yum --disablerepo=livna update", that worked and it skipped livna

This was just posted to fedora-list:

After some "user errors", the rpm.livna.org system has been unreachable
for 36h now. Someone has to physically get to the data center and reboot
it. It should be done in a few hours.

Look for the livna.repo file inside the /etc/yum.respos.d/ folder. Edit with your favorite editor and comment the main mirror line and select one of the others. I suggest you use http://livna.cat.pdx.edu/fedora/$releasever/$basearch/RPMS.lvn

That should let you use the livna repo.

Works like a charm now!

FYI -- Can't speak for anybody else, but all those extra lines were already in the repo config, but they were simply commented out.

Thanks for the tip BUT by now one would think this is resolved by the fedora's faq and developers. I hope developers and programmers can see these sort of minor issues. NO wonder fedora is now ranking #4 I remember when it used to be #2. At least mandriva keeps up a good stable position.

Who's doing this rating anyhow? Is it the same group that had Kerry tied with Bush the day before the election?

OMG! Imdeemvp, you've got your very own 'help' site! Got it bookmarked and will start forwarding the multitudes to your door shortly.

Good to see your still as contankerous as ever ;)

If the primary mirrorlist on a third party repository fails there is not much Fedora developers can do about it. This is completely unrelated to any ranking in any website. If you are talking about distrowatch, that ranking is about how many people visit in the distrowatch fedora page. Nothing more

Where have you been? You dissapered for a while! Good to hear from you again!

@Raul,

When we update the system via yum the repos are created automatically in the yum.repos directory and livna is
one of the repo added. So whoever wrote the livna repo did not provide the correct info.

Fedora only provides core and extras repositoryenabled by default. The development repository and testing repository is provided but disabled by default. All other repositories are third party ones the users have selected to use manually.If the primary mirror list fails in them they will not work. This is not a matter of providing the correct information. There is obsolutely nothing Fedora developers can do about third party repositories and their mirror management capabilities.

However Fedora Project itself is working on improving its own mirror management

See http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora/MirrorManagement for details.

Good to know.....now is bouncer going to replace the non-hassle free YUM?

There seems to be some misunderstanding. Mirror management infrastructure cant replace package managers. Package managers like yum are for resolving and installing packages. Mirror management infrastructure in Fedora has the goals documented in the page I referred to above. Kindly read that.

In addition to Rahul's post, the reason yum seems slow is due to this url

mirrorlist=http://fedora.redhat.com/download/mirrors/fedora-core-$releasever
that will randomly select servers.
