Nautilus has intermittent problems connecting to Samba shares. While mount works perfectly it requires root previlege. Is there any way I can mount a Samba share for a user when he start up, presumably in the bash profile?

it sounds like you (non-root user you are logged in as) does not have access to the dir you are mounting to. Add access to your user and you should be all set with your mount command. Alternatively, mount the share in question to a directory that you already have access to (create a dir in your home dir or something.)
