While learning more about FC4, i've discovered that it can implement the apt-get thingy that I used in ubuntu. One thing that I want to find out is can I add and update repositories. If I can how do I do this. I've looked for a file called sources.list which is the file where all the repositories are listed at least in ubuntu. In fc4 it might be called sometihng else. I'm only assuming that. Can someone please shed a little light on how it all works?

it all works quite the same .. AFAIR the file u r talking abt is /etc/apt/sources.list ..
I am at work rite now .. so cant help u much .. but if u want I can post my sources later ..
also .. I do not use sources.list .. I rather prefer to add them individually as .list files in the /etc/apt/sources.list.d directory ...

Apt is deprecated in Fedora Core in favor of yum for these reasons (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Apt). You can still install it, but I recommend that you use it only as a complement to yum. Also be careful about mixing repositories (http://stanton-finley.net/fedora_core_4_installation_notes.html#Warning). See Fedora Core Installation Notes (http://stanton-finley.net/fedora_core_4_installation_notes.html) for instructions about installing yum, yumex, apt and synaptic.

oh yikes.
I had several problems using YUM behind a proxy server (squid).
tried adjusting yum.conf to include the proxy address and also proxy username and proxy passwd no luck.
wget can get to the repo www address fine but yum just nags and nags.
finally i ditched yum by: rpm -e yum
now i dont know where to find the .rpm package for yum. I've found a src.rpm for yum. but am very new with linux...i dare not mess with src packages yet!
does anyone know where yum rpm lives?

cheers!!
Andrew

Oh yes..for those of you with gpgkeys problemo

go to the following site:
http://www.fedorafaq.org/#gpgsig

here you can import the various gpg keys for the different repo sites!
