View Full Version : Need help with USB IrDA

26th September 2005, 08:18 AM
I'm new in Linux and I got problem with using my IRda device.
I have a USB-IRda device (IRExpress from KC Technology), but I don't know how to set it up.
I'm using Fedora Core 4 (kernel 2.6.11-1) and below is the information about my device from dmesg:

IRDA-USB found at address 2, Vendor: 50f, Product: 180
IrDA: Registered device irda0
usbcore: registered new driver irda-usb
USB IrDA support registered
drivers/usb/serial/usb-serial.c: USB Serial support registered for Generic
usbcore: registered new driver usbserial_generic
usbcore: registered new driver usbserial
drivers/usb/serial/usb-serial.c: USB Serial Driver core v2.0
drivers/usb/serial/usb-serial.c: USB Serial support registered for IR Dongle
usbcore: registered new driver ir-usb
drivers/usb/serial/ir-usb.c: USB IR Dongle driver v0.4

I've installed lirc-0.6.6 and this is the status from my device using "ls -l /dev/lirc":

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 5 Sep 25 04:25 /dev/lirc -> ttyS0

When I try to run "irrecord" command using my "lircd.conf" file for Sony TV Remote Control as the option, I got this message:

irrecord: could not get hardware features
irrecord: this device driver does not support the new LIRC interface
irrecord: major number of /dev/lirc is 4
irrecord: LIRC major number is 61
irrecord: check if /dev/lirc is a LIRC device
irrecord: could not init hardware (lircd running ? --> close it, check permissions)

I want to use my remote control to control some applications like XMMS, but I have no idea to solve the problem.
Do I need to install some driver for my IRda or what?
I hope someone can help me with this stuff.
