just wanted to know whether doing a yum update take up disk space? even if i update only already installed packages, that is. I updated openoffice and found my diskspace down by a whopping 100 mb or so.. :(

Thanks

It stores a cache of downloaded files. I believe you can turn this option off, but I have not done so myself. You can also do a 'yum clean all' and it will clean up the cache and other files yum leave around.

Yea it does use space. I hadn't done yum clean all for a while. I did it yesterday and gained like 3 GB. :)

Where does yum store these downloads?? Also, if i just want to download a package with its dependencies, primariy to install on another machine that doesnt have a net connection, how do i do so?
