i know you'll point me towards and installation guide and call me an idiot, but i followed http://stanton-finley.net/fedora_core_4_installation_notes.html#Xine and i'm using totem-xine from livna.

wmv files work, so i must have done something right. and everything plays in mplayer, but mplayer is ugly as hell and i'd much prefer to use totem.

when i try to play a divx file in totem, it says, "Video codec 'DivX 5' is not handled. You might need to install additional plugins to be able to play some types of movies."

when i go to edit > preferences > add proprietary plugins, it takes me to my plugins directory that appears to have the proper divx files: divxa32.acm, divx_c32.ax, divxc32.dll, divxdec.ax, and divx.dll.

so what's going on? the files are there, it works in mplayer, other codecs work in totem... but no divx.

You will probably have to use mplayer. Be sure to get all the codecs per the Notes (http://stanton-finley.net/fedora_core_4_installation_notes.html).

i'm using totem-xine, not gstreamer.
